About Us
Sogetsu Pittsburgh Study Group was established in 1990. Since then
we've been not only studying the Sogetsu Curriculum but also seeking
the opportunities to introduce our Ikebana to the community and to have
collaboration with different organizations and other artists.
Pittsburgh is the home to the Andy Warhol Museum, Warhol and the
founder of Sogetsu School, Sofu Teshigahara, met in Japan in 1970's and
shared an admiration for each other's art form. Because of this
connection our group is given a privilege to exhibit our work at the
museum each year.
What we get from the process of arranging is silent dialogue
with the material and the container, serenity and calm, then an idea
comes and energy sparks, a challenge that brings satisfaction and
content.
New dialogue starts with others and a new door opens.
